Smasne Owens Reserve
To Robert O. Smasne the meaning of “RESERVE” and designation of his signature on this label signifies the dedication and pinnacle efforts of his years crafting wines from Washington State. Most notably, these reserve wines are not produced every vintage. These very limited reserve wines were hand-selected and crafted from the finest vineyards, grapes, barrels and practices in the world? This “Reserve” bottling showcases the quest and passion to produce the highest quality wines in the world. Owens, my given middle name has been passed down for generations and was my great-grandmother’s maiden name.
This wine is the highlight of the vintage, worthy of cellar-aging and an honor to share with you.
The wine itself is crafted from three of my favorite vineyards; Lawrence in the Royal Slope, Upland on Snipes Mountain and Phinny Hill in the Horse Heaven Hills. This blend captures the essence of Washington’s Terroir with remarkable balance and elegance. Dominate Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) the wine is classic, bold and expressive. The 21% Petit Verdot adds weight, depth, dark fruits and an amazing texture which leads to the lushness of fruit and refined tannins from the Malbec (9%) and hints of spice, subtle earth from the Carmenere (3%). Barrel aged for 29 months in 100% NewFrench Oak and bottle aged for over a year and a half before released showcases the true quality of this Reserve Bordeaux Blend.
